Stonehill House Wedding Barn - Abingdon
Stonehill House Barn - Romantic Rustic Weddings at a beautiful Oxfordshire Wedding Venue.
The magic of a wedding day is truly special.
After months of planning, scrutinising every small detail to ensure that your day unfolds just as you hoped - your wedding venue is the location where your plans come to life.
It’s the stage where your memories are based, the backdrop where your wedding photographer and guests frame precious memories that can be replayed time and time again with beautiful images.
Therefore it stands to reason that where ever your wedding venue might be, it is fitting to your expectations.
Within Oxfordshire, we are truly blessed with wedding venues to suit every need and more importantly, budget. Contemporary venues, historical venues, victorian manor houses and everything in between.
And it is here where I intend to explore this further.
Regardless of the season, a Barn Wedding offers a style and feel of a wedding ceremony or celebration unlike no other.
During the cooler months, the feel of a cosy rustic barn with warm lighting tones and high decorated wooden beams is dream-worthy.
Conversely, during the warmer months, the ability of the barn with its normally vast barn door openings allows your outside celebrations to seamlessly enter the barn, where the coolness of the shade offers some respite from the summer heat.
So it is fair to say that barn style weddings should be well and truly high up with the traditional wedding venue options.
As a wedding photographer, one particular Barn that elicits fond memories not only for the guests but for me too, is the beautiful Stonehill Barn, Abingdon.
About Stonehill Barn
Quietly and discreetly nestled in the grounds of a Georgian Manor House, the Barn at Stonehill is one of Abingdon's best-kept secrets.
Uniquely it offers the opportunity to hire, build and DIY your own wedding design. So the ability to really personalise your day is absolutely an option.
This amazing venue will cater for 150 guests, with onsite free parking and provide an option for onsite guest accommodation. In the event that this guest accommodation is not available there is numerous B+Bs close by (I will list a few in case this is an option) and there are 2 hotels literally a 5 and 10-minute drive from the Barn - again listed below if you so wish to make a booking.
For couples who desire to have an “all in one” wedding affair, the Barn owners have a ceremonial licence.
With this being an option, there are ample places to conduct a fitting ceremony in the relaxing gardens of the Barn offering the guests and the couple to enjoy the views of this amazing location.
The wedding garden in front of the barn also offers the possibility to set up marquees in keeping with the occasion.
The barn itself measures 21.6m x 9.5m and is particularly striking with its exposed timbers, herringbone brickwork floor and vast barn doors. The beauty of Stonehill Barn as a wedding venue lies not only in the mystical ambience or majesty of the building but also in the fact that wedding clients are able to create a unique bespoke wedding event.
Emma and her team at Stonehill barn are happy to welcome you to visit the location by appointment only and can answer more of your questions if you have them by emailing info@stonehillhouse.co.uk
More about the barn -
• Maximum capacity is 150 people but depending on Covid-19 restrictions, we have suggested 100 guests, which would allow enough space for social distancing measures… Much progress has been made with co-existing with COVID 19 therefore this should be discussed at the time, should restrictions and measures change.
• Ceremonial licence - In England, in order for a venue to qualify for a licence it must meet criteria laid down by the local council. This mainly ensures that the location is fit for purpose, safe, in a good state of repair and can be accessible by members of the public - other regulations dictate suitable fire regulations etc.
Civil ceremonies must also be free of all religious connotations. More simply put, the location/building cannot be otherwise mainly used for religious purposes. Buildings must have a permanent roof structure that is immovable. So your summer gazebo or local marque provider cannot be granted a licence - Stonehill Barn fulfils all of the required criteria.
• One of the joys of designing a DIY wedding is that you can literally build your own wedding from start to finish. You choose the furniture, the accessories, the decor, to a certain extent the lighting and importantly the suppliers - more on this below.
• Pricing - for a 48-hour hire slot from midday of the day before the wedding day through to midday following the event is available from £3,000 - A Ceremony fee of £450 is additionally payable should you wish to hold your ceremony at the location.
• Entertainment and Music cut-off is 11pm, although silent discos are welcome to continue until midnight.
• Accommodation is available in a self-catering on-site cottage, sleeping 6 (3 double bedrooms)
• Glamping is also possible to a maximum of 20 tents.
